The official opening of the newly renovated Open Air staff room, as well as the Sport Pavilion was held on 24 April 2017 by way of a formal assembly, with the program director being Mr S Gabela (Open Air School, deputy principal). Mr B Moshal, managing trustee of the Victor Daitz Foundation addressed the staff and learners with a very inspirational talk. This was followed by the cutting of the ribbon and a high tea held in the staff room.

Also in attendance were Mrs M Caminsky (donations co-ordinator, Victor Daitz Foundation), Mr E Altshuler (Chairperson of the Open Air School trust), Mrs F Hartley (Secretary of the Open Air School trust), Mrs S Burrows (interior designer), Mrs R Ramsay (Chairperson school governing body) and Mr DN Moodley (Open Air School principal)

As the number of staff has increased over the years, the old staff room could not accommodate all staff and therefore new facilities were required. The Sports Pavilion was a new addition as it overlooks the astro-turf and does not only have an aesthetic value , but also a functional one as parents and learners can now sit in the Sports pavilion and watch sporting activities.

This project was funded by the Victor Daitz Foundation, which is an organization which has made major contributions towards the charitable needs of all community groups in South Africa particularly education. The Victor Daitz foundation has supported many projects that the Open Air School trust has undertaken and the extension and renovation to our staff room was one of them.

Mr Greg Feloman was the building contractor assigned to the project and Mrs Shirley Burrows a well known interior designer ensured that the furnishings and décor in the staff room were up to standard. Shirley was also able to secure reduced prices for all furnishings and décor from the following organizations and individuals: Upholstery and General, CN furniture, Just Interiors, Cane Time, Home Flair, Hirschs, JAM, Peter Somaru and Authar CC.

Our sincere thanks to the Victor Daitz foundation, the Open Air School trust and all the donors in supporting this project. The end result is a beautiful staff room and sports pavilion which will be enjoyed by present and future staff.
